Default A simple question to all you Christians out there - July 22, 2010, 22:03

Let us assume, for the moment, that God exists as outlined in Biblical texts. Let us also assume that Hell also exists.
This leads us to the assumption of a purpose for hell, namely, punishment of those that have sinned.
How does this punishment work? Eternal suffering and torture. Burning being the main method.
The sins are things such as a lack of belief in the Christian God, homosexuality, and many things that are outlined as crimes in our own government (stealing, and murder, for instance).
Now, if we were to take however many people have lived over the course of history and parse the Christians who have been saved from those who have been eternally damned, we would get a number ranging in the billions, if not the tens of billions.
Theoretically, these people are burning, have been burning, and will continue to burn for the rest of time itself.
Taking this to be true, let us make a comparison:
God - responsible for the unending torture and damnation of millions upon billions of men, women and children.
Hitler - responsible for the brief (comparitively) torture of eleven million men, women and children.
Hitler is generally seen as among the most atrocious, disgusting and vile offspring of the human race. (rightly so, certainly, the man was horrendous)
God is seen as an omnipotent being with infinite care, wisdom, and loving.

The question is this: How can God be seen in such a radically different light from a man guilty of crimes much akin to those ascribed to god himself?
